VERNET (Charles Horace, known as Carle). 1758–1836. Painter, draftsman, and lithographer. Autograph letter signed “Carle Vernet” to M. de la Chabeaussière. No place, July 10, 1817. Address and postmarks. A small tear in the paper caused by opening the letter, without affecting the text. Vernet writes to the “permanent secretary of the Academic Society of the Children of Apollo” regarding a delay in payments … Circumstances of which you may be aware […] have made it impossible for me to pay. I expect to be able to make a partial payment by the twentieth of this month and to settle the balance shortly thereafter... The Academic Society of the Children of Apollo, founded in 1741, began offering an annual public concert to its members as early as 1784.
