A friendly and spontaneous handwritten note from Albert Vandal, in which the historian invites his correspondent to visit on Sunday. The tone is simple and cordial, reflecting the intellectual social customs of the late 19th or early 20th century. Vandal offers to host his correspondent “Sunday evening around 6:30,” specifying that he will “certainly” be at home and that he would be “delighted to chat” with him. He adds that he is leaving on Monday for a few days, which lends this invitation a sense of urgency and specificity. The letter, brief but lively, attests to the network of relationships maintained by this major historian of the late nineteenth century, a recognized specialist in European diplomacy and the Napoleonic era, and the author of important works on Napoleon and Alexander I, among others.
