PASSPORT — CONSULATE GENERAL OF FRANCE IN LONDON During the reign of Louis-Philippe I, King of the French. Partially printed and handwritten document, signed, issued in London on July 13, 1841, in large folio format on laid paper, bearing the Consulate’s red wet seal. A very fine decorative and historical document, issued in the name of His Majesty the King of the French, during the July Monarchy. This passport orders “The civil and military officers to allow Mr. Edward Martin of Waterford, Ireland—a student—and his fellow student Mr. William Doyle of Wexford, Ireland, to pass freely,” with both travelers authorized to travel to: “Paris and Rome.” The document features, in the left margin, a handwritten physical description of the bearer, noting in particular his age, height, hair color, and eye color, as well as the holder’s autograph signature. At the bottom of the document is the signature of the French Consul General in Bristol, Henry George Fowler, a consular officer, accompanied by the consulate’s wet seal. Very beautiful calligraphic presentation, with a large title: “In the name of His Majesty the King of the French” A particularly attractive document due to its format, official typography, and highly decorative character. Satisfactory condition: normal creases, slight patina on the paper, well-preserved seal.
