MARJOLIN (Jean-Nicolas) MARJOLIN (Jean, Nicolas). Born in Ray-sur-Saône, 1780—died in Paris, 1850. French surgeon. Professor at the Paris Faculty of Medicine, surgeon at the Hôtel-Dieu, and later Surgeon to the King. His name is associated with “Marjolin’s ulcer,” a cancerous degeneration of certain chronic lesions. Autograph letter signed “Marjolin,” addressed to Dr. Laborie. Paris, October 12, 1833. 1 page, in-8. Address on the reverse. A brief note in which Marjolin expresses his regret at being unable to attend a meeting with his correspondent and the dermatologist Jean-Louis Alibert, a founding figure of French dermatology. An interesting insight into the relationships among leading Parisian practitioners during the Restoration and the July Monarchy.
