LÉVY (Maurice). - Lot 186
LÉVY (Maurice).
(1838–1910)
French mathematician and engineer, member of the Academy of Sciences.
Autograph letter signed “M. Lévy” to Léon Labbé
Paris, September 8, 1901.
1½ pages, in-8 format.
Letter regarding an election to the Institute An interesting letter in which Maurice Lévy expresses his support for Léon Labbé, then a candidate for the Institute. He assures Labbé that he will vote in favor of convening a committee that would be favorable to him, explicitly referring to the internal mechanisms of the election:
“…the first step in the electoral process for full members…”
This passage sheds light on the practices and strategies surrounding elections within the Academy of Sciences, which are rarely documented in such direct terms.
