LESCOUVE (Théodore) LESCOUVE (Théodore. Aix-en-Provence, 1864–1940. Senior French civil servant and magistrate. Autograph letter signed “Th. Lescouve,” addressed to a friend. Paris, October 31, 1923. 1 page, in-8 format, on letterhead of the Paris Court of Appeals. A short but elegant thank-you letter in which Lescouve expresses his gratitude for the congratulations he received, which he modestly considers “too generous,” while emphasizing the special value of the expression of friendship that accompanies them. The tone, sober and distinguished, is characteristic of the epistolary conventions of the legal world in the early 20th century. He concludes with a warm closing—"I extend my warmest regards"—which lends this note a personal and sincere dimension, going beyond mere formal correspondence. A prominent magistrate, Théodore Lescouve presided over the Paris Court of Appeals from 1917 to 1923 and subsequently became president of the Court of Cassation, which lends this document additional significance for the history of the French judiciary.
