LEGION OF HONOR — HUNDRED DAYS. LACÉPÈDE, Bernard Germain Étienne, Count of (1756–1825) Naturalist, zoologist, statesman, Grand Chancellor of the Legion of Honor. P.S. signed “b.g.e. Count of Lacépède,” Paris, March 20, 1813 (to be verified: the handwritten note mentions the Hundred Days / 1815; the date on the document appears to require confirmation by direct examination), 1 folio page, printed letterhead: “LEGION OF HONOR — The Grand Chancellor, Minister of State” A very fine administrative and historical document. Addressed to: Mr. Gillet, lieutenant of the reserve company, regarding his application for admission to the Order of the Legion of Honor. The Grand Chancellor writes: “It is my sincere hope that your wish will soon be granted; I shall not forget either your service or your honorable wound.” A very fine text, with profound human and military significance, directly referencing the recipient’s services rendered as well as his war wounds. A particularly interesting document due to its Napoleonic context and its direct connection to the Legion of Honor. In good overall condition, with the usual central creases.
