LEGION OF HONOR - GRÉVY, Jules (1807–1891) LEGION OF HONOR GRÉVY, Jules (1807–1891) — FAIDHERBE, Louis Léon César (1818–1889) Certificate of appointment to the rank of Officer of the National Order of the Legion of Honor, partially printed document signed “Jules Grévy” and “L. Faidherbe,” Paris, April 7, 1880. 1 large folio-sized vellum sheet (approx. 40 x 32 cm), with a beautiful engraved border vignette. A very fine official document from the Third Republic appointing: LOUCHARD, Edme Victor, lieutenant colonel of artillery, a native of Saints, Somme department, to the rank of Officer of the Legion of Honor, by decree of February 3, 1880. A very fine presentation typical of the Republic’s grand certificates, adorned with a wide decorative border and the central motif of the insignia. Signed by: Jules Grévy, President of the Republic Louis Faidherbe, Grand Chancellor of the Order A beautiful piece that is both decorative and historically interesting, bringing together two major figures of 19th-century French political and military life. In good overall condition, with typical age-related creases.
