LAVISSE (Ernest). (1842–1922) Historian, member of the Académie française. Autographed pneumatic postcard signed “E. Lavisse” addressed to Mr. and Mrs. Doireaux. Paris, February 5, 1909. 2/3 p. in-12. Pneumatic card with handwritten address. Postage consisting of 3 stamps (including 1 pre-printed stamp), postmarks. A brief and informal note in which Lavisse announces his visit: “Strange news! (…) I’m coming over for dinner at your place tonight, Saturday, at 7:30, unless you forbid me to…” He also specifies where he can be found before dinner, in a direct and spontaneous style typical of private correspondence.
