LAVISSE (Ernest). (1842–1922) Historian, founder of positivist history in France, member of the French Academy. Autograph letter signed “E. L.” to a friend. Paris, June 9, 1903. 1 p., in-8. Printed letterhead of *La Revue de Paris*, 85 bis Faubourg Saint-Honoré. A lively and informal letter in which Lavisse humorously discusses the difficulties of organizing a trip: “Asking for a ticket two days in advance! You’d have to be from Buenos Aires! (…) Max will have to send someone to stand in line…” He ultimately advises favoring the Champs-Élysées, “full of Guignols,” in a lighthearted and almost socialite-like tone, revealing the Parisian sociability of the Belle Époque.
