LAFERRIÈRE (Louis Fortuné Adolphe). Alençon, 1801 (or 1810?) – 1877. French actor, a leading figure of Romantic theater. Autograph note signed “To my dear Najar,” no place, Tuesday, January 27, 1 page in-12, brown ink on cream paper, note stamped with his initials. A charming autograph note signed by Louis Laferrière, addressed to a correspondent named Najar. In it, the actor apologizes for his silence, which was due to poor health: “For the past month, I’ve been confined to my room with bronchitis.” He then suggests a meeting, in a tone of great simplicity and pleasant warmth: “How about Friday from 3 to 4? We can chat in complete privacy.” The letter concludes with a friendly closing and a beautiful signature: “With my best regards, Yours, A. Laferrière” A delightful little document, both intimate and representative of the sociability of the Parisian theater world in the 19th century. A leading figure in Romantic drama and a stage partner of Frédérick Lemaître and Étienne Mélingue, Laferrière performed notably at the Odéon, the Porte-Saint-Martin, and the Folies-Dramatiques, in iconic roles from the Romantic repertoire. In very good condition. Beautiful ink, elegant handwriting, and perfectly legible. The decorative signature is particularly attractive.
