KERENSKY (Alexander) [JAURÈS (Jean). 1859–1914.] Born in Russia. 1881–1970. Russian politician and lawyer. Sepia-toned postcard photograph of Jean Jaurès, signed “A. Kerensky” and “A. Ky.” No place, [Paris], June 11, 1918. Dimensions: 14 cm x 9 cm. Published by the Socialist Party Bookstore. 12 Rue Montmartre. Slight paper loss in the lower left corner. An unusual gathering of two “figures” of socialism. Kerensky was a member of the Socialist Revolutionary Party at the time of the Bolshevik uprisings. He himself took the helm of the Provisional Government but was ousted during the October Revolution, or Red October, in 1917. He then went into exile in Paris, where he produced numerous writings on the Russian revolutionary period. When the Germans arrived in Paris in 1940, Kerensky was forced to flee once again and settled in New York. Kerensky is remembered as the first to have offered Russia its first democratic transition.
