The book traces his entire career, from his early experiments influenced by Alfred Stieglitz to the major photo books that established his international reputation (*Time in New England*, *La France de profil*, *Un Paese*, *Living Egypt*, *Les Hébrides*). The selection highlights the various facets of his work: frontal portraits of exceptional psychological intensity, landscapes, architecture, still lifes, and compositions of such formal rigor that they establish Strand as one of the founders of modern photography.
