CAPA (Robert). - Lot 52
CAPA (Robert). Robert Capa. Israel, 1948–1950. Paris, Museum of Jewish Art and History / Magnum Photos, 2003. Large quarto, paperback. Catalog of the exhibition dedicated to Robert Capa’s exceptional photojournalism covering the birth of the State of Israel. Bringing together nearly 150 photographs taken between 1948 and 1950, the book traces the various stages of the new state’s creation: the arrival of immigrants, the declaration of independence, the first battles, refugee camps, daily life, reconstruction, and the settlement of new arrivals. The accompanying texts place these images in their historical context and highlight Capa’s profoundly humanistic perspective, which focused more on individuals than on mere military reporting. This publication sheds light on a body of work that has long remained less well-known than the photographer’s major war reportages, while illustrating one of the major chapters in his body of work and in the history of 20th-century photojournalism. Condition: very good copy. Cover shows very slight signs of handling; interior is fresh and complete.
