A beautiful French edition dedicated to Karl Blossfeldt (1865–1932), one of the founding figures of modern photography. Trained as a sculptor, Blossfeldt developed a systematic method for photographing the plant world, magnifying buds, stems, and leaves up to forty times to reveal their architectural structures. His images, published as early as the late 1920s in *Urformen der Kunst* and *Wundergarten der Natur*, exerted a considerable influence on the Bauhaus, the Nouvelle Vision, and the Surrealist movements. This edition from the Bibliothèque Visuelle collection features a selection of the artist’s most famous photographs, accompanied by a text by Gert Mattenklott and the extensive editorial work of Ann and Jürgen Wilde, specialists on Blossfeldt. Condition: very good copy. Dust jacket shows slight handling with a few discreet signs of wear and an old label that has been removed, leaving a slight mark on the endpaper. Interior is in very fresh condition.
