ATGET (Eugène).
Eugène Atget. Los Grandes Fotógrafos series, no. 43. Barcelona, Ediciones Orbis, n.d. (circa 1984–1986).
Quarto, illustrated hardcover by the publisher.
A Spanish edition dedicated to Eugène Atget (1857–1927), a founding figure of modern photography and an unrivaled chronicler of old Paris. This volume, part of the renowned Los Grandes Fotógrafos collection, features a selection of his most iconic images: deserted streets, building courtyards, shops, staircases, gardens, monuments, and small trades, captured between the late 19th century and the 1920s.
Long regarded as merely a supplier of “reference material for artists,” Atget was rediscovered after his death thanks to Berenice Abbott, who acquired a large portion of his archive and played a decisive role in his international recognition. His work, admired first by the Surrealists and later by photography historians, exerted a considerable influence on 20th-century documentary photography.
The reproduction quality of this collection, printed in large format, faithfully reproduces Atget’s famous view camera prints and serves as an excellent introduction to his poetic world, which lies halfway between a heritage inventory and an artistic vision.
Condition: Good copy. Some minor signs of wear and rubbing on the covers, nothing serious. Interior is clean and complete.
