FALAISEAU (Adam) - Lot 269
FALAISEAU (Adam) FALAISEAU, Adam (1575-1626). Advisor and physician to King Henri IV. P.S. "Adam Falaiseau". S.l., October 4, 1604; oblong vellum in-8. Rare autograph receipt signed by Adam Falaiseau, advisor and physician to Henri IV, concerning payment of his wages attached to his position with the King's household. The document is addressed to the Treasurer of the Royal Household and records receipt of "three cens livres" for the quarters of April, May and June 1604 "à cause de mon estat de médecin de sa majesté". On the reverse are several autographed lines from Falaiseau repeating the terms of the receipt: "Pour servir de quittance à monsieur Girard, conseiller du Roy et thresorier de sa maison...", typical of the administrative and accounting practices of the court under Henri IV. A fine piece on vellum, entirely handwritten, bearing a clearly legible signature "Adam Falaiseau". Of particular interest for the history of royal medicine in the early 17th century, and for the financial organization of the King's household after the Wars of Religion. Good overall condition, despite creases, minor foxing and traces of use, which are usual for this type of document preserved on vellum.
