FOY (François). Born in Fontaine-sous-Montaiguillon (Seine-e - Lot 58
FOY (François). Born in Fontaine-sous-Montaiguillon (Seine-et-Marne). 1793-1867. French pharmacist and physician.
L.A.S. "F. Foy" to his friend Victor Deseglise, bookseller and bibliophile. Royan, September 22, 1862. 2 pp. in-12 on linen paper. Enclosed: original full-length sepia photograph of the doctor (6.5 x 10.5 cm), with autograph note on verso: "Portrait du Docteur Foy. Souvenir à son ami Victor Deseglise".
A charming, friendly and intimate letter addressed to Victor Deseglise, in which Dr. Foy warmly thanks his correspondent for a letter he received in Royan:
"Mille remerciements à mon heureux, joyeux et jeune ami Victor Deseglise. I have received his charming letter and have received enough to prolong for a few more days the charming walk I have been promising myself for a long time...".
The doctor then evokes the hope of a forthcoming return, as well as his constant pleasure at finding his friend:
"...what a joy it is to find you both well again... what a joy it is to be in such a situation...".
The set is enhanced by an attractive sepia photograph of François Foy standing, leaning on a cane, in an elegant photographic studio setting signed "V. Plumier, photographe, rue Vivienne, 36". The verso bears an autograph dedication to Victor Deseglise, reinforcing the emotional and documentary interest of this small set.
A fine collection of friendly and bibliophilic items, testifying to the relations between doctors and book lovers in the mid-19th century. Good condition despite a few folds and minor signs of use.
