CAILLEUX (Alexandre-Achille-Alphonse de Cailleux, known as de Cailleux).
Born in Rouen in 1788, died in 1876. Painter, art historian and administrator of royal museums. Contributor to Voyage pittoresque de l'ancienne France, author of the section devoted to Ancienne Normandie. General Secretary of Museums under the Restoration, then General Director of Fine Arts in 1841. Open member of the Académie des Beaux-Arts from 1845.
P.S. signed, on letterhead of the Maison du Roi - Direction des Musées Royaux.
Au Louvre, March 26, 1847. 1 p. in-folio.
Interesting handwritten pass authorizing an artist to work in the Louvre galleries before they open to the public:
"Mr Mouilleron is authorized to enter the Exhibition galleries every day before 8 a.m., except Monday and Saturday, to draw Mr Hédoüin's painting no. 805 representing a souvenir from Spain."
The document is signed by de Cailleux as :
"Directeur des Musées Royaux".
A fine administrative document relating to artistic life under the July Monarchy, testifying to copying and study practices in the Louvre galleries in the mid-19th century. Official letterhead of the Maison du Roi.
Very good condition, with the usual folds.
