ANDRAL (Gabriel). Born in Paris. 1797-1876. French physician, professor at the École de Médecine where he succeeded Broussais. Member of the Académie des Sciences (1843).
B.A.S. "Andral" to Monsieur Viard, 18 rue du Cirque, Paris. [Paris], May 22 [1853]. Half-page in-16, with blue postmark.
Very concise autograph bill addressed to Monsieur Viard, in which the famous clinician confirms a visit:
"I shall have the honor of visiting Monsieur Viard on Thursday between five and six in the evening."
Andral was one of the great figures of 19th-century French medicine. As Broussais's successor in the chair of general pathology, he played a major role in the development of pathological anatomy and modern clinical medicine. His teaching and work had a considerable influence on several generations of European physicians.
Charming medical courtesy bill, sober and elegant, bearing an autograph address and a well-preserved Parisian postmark. Good overall condition, with wear creases.
