Asterix, The Golden Serpe. - Lot 39
Asterix, The Golden Serpe. GOSCINNY - UDERZO La Serpe d'or. Dargaud, [s.d., circa 1980]. In-4 hardback, boards illustrated in color. Asterix the Gaul's second adventure, this album takes our heroes to Lutetia to replace the broken golden sickle of the druid Panoramix. The story is like a real police investigation in the underworld of the great Gallo-Roman city, with a multitude of winks at Parisian life. Uderzo's brushwork, though still in an evolutionary phase, is already establishing the visual codes of the series. This album is crucial, as it deepens the relationship between Asterix and Obelix, and defines the sociological and anachronistic humor that would make the Goscinny-Uderzo duo famous. Copy note: Please note that the photos present an inconsistency: the justification page (mentioning an initial deposit of 2009 and ISBN 978-2-86497-230-3) actually belongs to the album L'Anniversaire d'Astérix & Obélix - Le Livre d'Or. It was mistakenly photographed in the place of the book shown. Justification page (theoretical for this print run) : © DARGAUD EDITEUR [1962]. Legal deposit: late 70s or early 80s. ISBN 2-205-00110-8 (conforms to reverse). Printed in France. Second plate: the list of "Déjà parus" titles on Obelix's menhir stops at Astérix chez les Belges (published in 1979). Descriptive condition: Solid boards. Clean boards with fresh colors. Very slight wear to corners. Note a small old label partially torn off above the barcode on the second board. Perfectly sound interior, complete with no erasures or tears. A fine copy of this must-have classic. A pillar of Franco-Belgian comics.
