Giacomo Francesco Cipper, known as "Il Todeschini" (1664-173 - Lot 49
Giacomo Francesco Cipper, known as "Il Todeschini" (1664-1736) The Fruit Merchant Oil on canvas H_147 cm W_118 cm Signed lower center "Giac Francesco Cipper". Accompanied by a restoration report from 2005. Our painting, unpublished in Cipper's corpus, features a large-format painting. We can relate our composition to the painting sold on July 6, 2011 at Bonhams in London, lot 71. "Il Todeschini", meaning "the little German", was a painter born in Feldkirch but who lived most of his life in Milan, where he is attested as early as 1696. Although his apprenticeship remains unclear to this day, it's clear that he was part of the miserable in the miserabilist vein of the Italian Baroque. His paintings bring to life the little people and scenes of everyday life. His paintbrush is sure-footed, and works with beautiful materials. His still lifes, always exquisite, reflect a departure with his sometimes rougher, almost caricatured figures. Our work is a perfect example of Todeschini's style, between light and shadow, mixing figures and generous still lifes. Expert : cabinet Artéon
