EDGAR CHAHINE (1874-1947) "Francesconi", Date: 1923 Sheet size : 45,5x32,3cm Signature :Proof on strong vellum of the only known teta, titled, justified "1/100" and signed (left). Technique: Drypoint and etching Condition: good N°366 of the catalog of engraved works, by M.MR.Tabanelli - Published by Il Mercante di Stampe Editeur - Milano . In 1892, he attended a high school in Venice run by the Mekhitarist brothers, studying at the same time with painter Antonio Paoletti and sculptor Antonio del Zotto at the Academy of Fine Arts. He settled permanently in Paris in 1895. He enrolled at the Académie Julian, then exhibited at the Salon des artistes français from 1896 to 1899, notably in the series La Vie lamentable, paintings of the underprivileged. In 1900, his engravings won him a gold medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition, followed in 1903 by another at the Venice Biennale, an event that paid him a retrospective tribute in 1924.
