Beautiful letter in which Gounod recommends the musical compositions of Georges Palicot, (pseudonym of Marie Schneckenburger, a pianist specializing in the piano-pedal. Gounod wrote him several pieces...Please let me, and you, hear three pieces for Chant et Piano (Valse chantée, le Mousseron and le Drapeau) that Palicot has just shown me, and with which I am very pleased... About Palicot, he adds, ...He should be encouraged and pushed; I believe that what he will bring you is for sale, and I would be happy if it were bought by your company; it won't ruin you, and it seems to me a good deal, from the point of view of success...Son of music publisher Jean Hartmann, Georges Hartmann became a publisher in 1868. From 1870, he was the exclusive publisher of Jules Massenet's operas. He published the great opera composers Gounod and Georges Bizet, as well as the music of César Franck, Camille Saint-Saëns and Paul Lacombe. He founded the Colonne concerts. His publishing house is bought by Heugel. The Danse roumaine and Suite concertante were written by Gounod for Marie Schneckenburger.
