DRUMONT (Edouard). - Lot 89
DRUMONT (Edouard).
Born in Paris. 1844-1917. Journalist, Catholic nationalist writer. Founder of La libre parole M.A.S. " Édouard Drumont ", entitled " Poussière et boue ". S.l.n.d. 2 pages 3/4 in-folio with mounting for printing.
To introduce his speech, Drumont evokes Jaurès ...the history of his last twenty years when he [Jaurès] said: "dust at certain times becomes mud..." (...). The magistrate who mercilessly condemns the poor devil who stole potatoes from a field acquits, with all manner of politeness, the financier who stole millions (...). There is nothing more than dust, the glorious dust raised in the grand avenue of the Champs Élysées by the landau of some High Bank buccaneer who has reduced millions of good people to misery, despair or suicide with Turkish bonds, Argentine loans or Honduran loans (...). Dirt and mud... lies and corruption disillusionment and venality cowardice or treachery imbecility or villainy that's the record of the current regime. What Jaurès said, others should have said (...) Today these little bastards run like young jackals in madness behind the big, pot-bellied, stinking hyenas of opportunism... He criticizes Cassagnac for his tartuffery...this man who claimed to be the workers' friend and who now denies them even the possibility of proving their innocence, whereas he himself, if we were not in the midst of Anarchy, if there were a Government, would long ago have been shipped off to Nouméa as an incorrigible conspirator...
