On the verso of the drawing depicting a bourgeois whose watch is stolen, Cham has noted the following text: ...it's perfectly useless to redo this wood, it's as good as the others, to do it right we'd have to start all over again, it's agreed moreover that this year's Almanach will be by the illustrator Tartempion or someone else but not by Cham...The set of manuscripts is composed of texts intended for the monthly captions of a comic almanac and its advertising promotion: ...Almanach Comique.
