AMANN (Paul). - Lot 15
AMANN (Paul).
Born in Prague. 1884-1958. Austrian writer and translator. During the Second World War, he emigrated to France, then to the United States. AMANN (Paul).
In 1915, he had an epistolary relationship with the great Thomas Mann. L.dactyl. S. "Paul Amann" to "A Pierre Abraham Cher ami". S.l.n.d., 1 page in-4 square.
Amann thanks his correspondent for sending his "beautiful studies" but regrets not having enough free time to ...find the contemplation to read and reread you properly. But the mere presence of your fascicles on my desk has invigorated the excellent memories left by your articles in Europe.... He hopes one day to see a volume edition of all Abraham's articles. As far as he is concerned, he has sent all the publishers a large volume (500 p!) of philosophy of history, and today I received the first letter (polite, oh polite!) of refusal. I hope only one of you will be taken in by this obese beauty! Please don't talk to me about intermittent friendship. Is there time for deep sympathy, for that life which alone is worth living? You must have sensed that my wife and I spent some of those hours at your and your dear wife's house that bind us together forever. We Germans, who have two ideas in our heads, are crazy and incongruous in our ways. Only in France can people be as charming as you are, while at the same time engaging in the most serious studies!
