ETTORE SOTTSASS (1917-2007) & BEDDING (PUBLISHER) Tappeto Volante" armchair, resting on a parallelepiped base covered with a red wool tufted carpet and edged with a boudin, foam seat and back covered with red, green partly striped removable zipped jersey, one armrest in stained beech. H 68 x W 174 x D 107 cm HISTORICAL The Tappeto Volante collection created by Sottsass in 1974 comprises 3 models A sofa, an armchair and this "chaise longue" seat, which Sottsass felt was the most poetic, since you could live on it and create, bearing in mind that the wooden armrest is actually a writing tablet that can be positioned on the right or left, depending on whether you're right or left-handed. This was one of the very first to be published. At the time, there was no Bedding plate on the wooden base. PROVENANCE Galleria Rocca 6, exhibited in Turin in 1986.
