BEUYS JOSEPH (1921-1986) - Lot 134
BEUYS JOSEPH (1921-1986) C'EST LA FIN DES LATINS, Paris, Galerie Durand-Dessert, March 1982, enameled plate 600x80mm, signed and numbered on the back. Unique edition of 100, all signed and numbered. In the new Galerie Durand-Dessert space on rue des Haudriettes, Joseph Beuys creates the installation "Dernier espace avec introspecteur". The exhibition, which is highly praised abroad, is poorly received by the French press. In response to the poor reception, the artist creates a plaque in the style of those used in the Paris metro. "C'est la fin de la fin des Latins" is an aphorism taken from the mystical writer Sâr Péladan who, in his book La décadence latine, contrasts spiritualist values with the false values of a materialistic, bourgeois society, ending with the phrase "Finis latinorum". Part of the Centre Pompidou collection. Schellmann, Joseph Beuys Multiples, 321 (105338) Mint condition.
