While the names of Degottex, Geneviève Asse and Chu Teh Chun, among others, resonate in the art market, there's one
unjustly ignored: Chaminade.
Yet his painting and his approach have nothing to be ashamed of in comparison with these artists. The kinship is obvious, as is his filiation with the landscape masters Cézanne, Turner and Corot. Translating the feeling of nature was the continuum of his art. He also defined himself as a gestural painter with a rhythm to which his early activity as a guitarist was perhaps no stranger. Interested in Zen art and calligraphy, he knew how to modulate his drawing according to the orientation of the charcoal.
Like all great artists, Chaminade has his own instantly recognizable style, praised by eminent critics including Roger van Gindertael and Lydia Harambourg. His palette consists mainly of the colors of air and earth, ochre, gray and blue, translating the mystery of nature.
"Authenticity" is the word that sums up Chaminade's work.
