CÉPÈDE (Casimir) - Lot 53
CÉPÈDE (Casimir) The Neolithic Tumulus of Wimereux. With 11 illustrations in the text. Boulogne-sur-Mer, Imprimerie G. Hamain, 83 rue Faidherbe, 1909. In-8, paperback, printed pink cover, approximately 24 pp., illustrated with 11 figures in the text, including photographs of the excavations, plans, and surveys of the burials. A rare offprint of Casimir Cépède’s study devoted to the excavations of the Wimereux tumulus, originally published in the *Bulletin de la Société académique de l’arrondissement de Boulogne-sur-Mer*, vol. VIII, 1908–1909, pp. 243–266. The study documents, in particular, the burial discovered during the 1907 excavation led by Cépède. Recent archaeological research has since reclassified the tumulus—long considered Neolithic—as belonging to the Bronze Age. A valuable copy with an autograph inscription by the author on the cover: “To Mr. D. Combet, Doctor of Science, Secretary of the Faculty of Sciences, with the author’s warmest and most respectful regards, C. Cépède.” Condition: fragile copy. Cover is heavily worn, torn, and has gaps along the edges, with water stains and old signs of moisture; spine is partially detached, and the quires are brittle. Interior is nevertheless presentable given the condition of the cover.
