SCHATBORN (Peter). Rembrandt. - Lot 267
SCHATBORN (Peter). Rembrandt. Paris, Louvre, Department of Drawings—5 Continents Éditions, [2006]. Square quarto, paperback, illustrated cover. ISBN 88-7439-313-X. A monograph devoted to the drawings by Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn (1606–1669) held at the Louvre, written by Peter Schatborn, an internationally recognized specialist in Dutch drawing and former curator of the Rijksmuseum. The book presents and discusses a representative selection of drawings attributed to Rembrandt: figure studies, landscapes, animals, and scenes captured from life. The reproductions, which are meticulously rendered and largely full-page, allow readers to appreciate the master’s characteristic graphic freedom and economy of means. Notably reproduced are Studies of Pigs, a Young Woman in Full Face, and a view of the Amstel Loop near the Kostverloren Manor. A very fine copy.
