Large quarto, publisher’s black percaline, covers adorned with embossed designs, extensive rocaille decoration and title gilded in the center of the front cover, spine decorated and titled in gold. A volume from the monumental *History of Painters of All Schools*, edited by Charles Blanc, former director of the École des Beaux-Arts, in collaboration with several writers and art historians. This volume corresponds to installments 151 through 200, bringing together a substantial series of monographs arranged in alphabetical order: Allori, Bassano, Carracci, Caravaggio, Correggio, Guercino, Hogarth, Largillière, Murillo, Reynolds, Rubens, Ruysdael, etc. Extensive woodcut illustrations, including portraits of painters, reproductions of paintings, and original compositions based on the masters’ works. An interesting example of the great illustrated art history of the Second Empire. Decorative publisher’s binding. Scuffing and wear on the headbands, joints, and corners; foxing, sometimes extensive, particularly on the title page and several leaves.
