THE POLITICAL COCAGNE POLE. 1871 KLENCK, Paul. The Political Cocagne Pole. 1871. Paris, published by Deforet and César, 64 Rue N.-D. des Petits-Champs; Printed by Talons, [1871]. A colored satirical lithograph depicting several political figures gathered around a massive pole topped by the throne of France. Notably depicted are Jules Favre, the Count of Paris, and Adolphe Thiers. Caption: “This is the method that the Bourbons, the d’Orléans, and other monarchists (so-called ‘patriots’) have used and will continue to use to ascend to the throne of France. ” Signed P. Klenck. An interesting caricature of monarchist claims at the beginning of the Third Republic. A few creases, foxing spots, and minor marginal wear.
