STENDHAL. — Complete Works. Volume XVIII: The Life of Henri Brulard. Paris, Pierre Larrive, 1956. In-4 (approx. 29 × 19.5 cm), paperback, with a white cover featuring red and black lettering. Volume XVIII of Stendhal’s Complete Works, in the edition published by Pierre Larrive, text edited by Georges Eudes. The volume is devoted to The Life of Henri Brulard, Stendhal’s famous autobiographical work. A carefully crafted edition on fine paper, featuring as its frontispiece an original full-page black-and-white engraving by Lucien Guezennec. A copy of this same volume, preserved in its slipcase, is described as having 266 pages. The print run is limited to 1,000 numbered copies on Marais vellum watermarked “Stendhal,” plus 30 non-commercial copies reserved for the publisher’s honorees and collaborators. All volumes in a collection normally bear the same number. This copy is unnumbered; the space reserved for the number on the colophon remains blank. Printed in Paris on July 10, 1956, on the publisher’s presses. Frontispiece engraved by Lucien Guezennec. Paperback in its original lined cover. A few slight creases and wrinkles on the cover, minor wear on the headband and the ends of the spine; interior well-preserved and frontispiece in very fresh condition. Without the publisher’s marbled slipcase, which is found on some complete copies of this volume. A fine copy of this volume devoted to one of Stendhal’s major autobiographical works, illustrated with a remarkable engraved frontispiece by Lucien Guezennec.
