MAUPASSANT (Guy de). — Five Short Stories. Brie-Comte-Robert - Lot 195
MAUPASSANT (Guy de). — Five Short Stories. Brie-Comte-Robert, Les Bibliolâtres de France, Les Minimes, 1947. Small quarto, 104 pp. and table of contents, loose-leaf, with a printed endpaper, a cardboard slipcase with a green cloth spine, and a matching publisher’s slipcase. A bibliophile edition bringing together five short stories by Guy de Maupassant: *La Maison Tellier*, *Ce cochon de Morin*, *Le Père Milon*, *Le Petit Fût*, and *L’Abandonné*. The volume is adorned with a portrait of Maupassant as a frontispiece and numerous decorative motifs drawn and wood-engraved by F. Allain, notably large initials set in black and gold. A one-time print run of 3,333 numbered copies on luxury paper from the Papeteries du Marais. This copy, No. 813, was specially printed for Dr. Jean Combet. Printed on March 3, 1947, by E. Baudelot in Paris. It is worth noting the subscriber’s name in the catalog entry: this type of copy “specially printed for” is characteristic of this edition and typically features the subscriber’s name printed within the book. A very fine copy, complete with its dust jacket and publisher’s slipcase. The set is in particularly fresh condition; very slight signs of wear on the slipcase.
