GAUTIER (Théophile). — Five Tales. Brie-Comte-Robert, Les Bibliolâtres de France, Les Minimes, 1946. Quarto, loose-leaf, with a padded cover printed in pinkish gray, red cardboard slipcase and publisher’s case, title label on the front cover of the slipcase. A bibliophile edition bringing together five tales by Théophile Gautier: *Le Pied de momie* and four other stories, adorned with a portrait of Théophile Gautier as a frontispiece and original color woodcuts by Paul Guimezanès, notably five headbands and five tailpieces. This composition and the attribution of the woodcuts to Guimezanès are confirmed by several copies described on the market. A single print run of 3,333 numbered copies on luxury paper from the Papeteries du Marais. Printing was completed on July 14, 1946, by E. Baudelot, printer, at 41 Avenue Reille in Paris. Copy No. 1411, specially printed for Jean Combet. A beautiful copy preserved as published, in loose sheets, with its original cover, slipcase, and case. Interior in fresh condition; some minor scuffing and small signs of wear on the slipcase and case.
