RUMPLER (Marguerite) — Romanesque Sculptures in Alsace - Lot 270
RUMPLER (Marguerite) — Romanesque Sculptures in Alsace Foreword by Marcel Aubert. Photographs by Jean-Paul Fuhry. Strasbourg, Les Cahiers techniques de l'Art, Éditions “Le Tilleul,” 1960. In-4 (approx. 25 × 20 cm), paperback, illustrated photographic cover. 108 pp.; the book consists primarily of an extensive collection of photographs: approximately 103 to 104 black-and-white plates devoted to Alsatian Romanesque sculpture. First edition. A beautiful photographic monograph devoted to Romanesque sculpture in Alsace from the 11th to the 13th centuries. Marguerite Rumpler compiles a veritable visual inventory of the sculpted ensembles and details of the major Alsatian monuments. Upon its publication, the book was praised for the quality and documentary value of Jean-Paul Fuhry’s photographs, several of which reproduced works that had been published only rarely or not at all. Condition: interior well-preserved. Cover shows fairly heavy rubbing, with wear, scuffing, and small losses along the edges, more pronounced at the corners and on the back cover; small old pencil inscription on the title page.
