OURSEL (Raymond). — ROMANESQUE ITINERARIES IN BURGUNDY. - Lot 244
OURSEL (Raymond). — ROMANESQUE ITINERARIES IN BURGUNDY. OURSEL (Raymond). — Romanesque Itineraries in Burgundy. La Pierre-qui-Vire, Éditions Zodiaque, 1977. “Les Travaux des mois” series, no. 11. Small square in-4 format, 104 pp., paperback with the publisher’s white cloth-bound cover adorned with the Zodiaque logo. Second edition, bearing the notation “Prix Bourgogne 1977.” The bibliography confirms this 1977 edition, 104 pages. A major illustrated work dedicated to Burgundy’s Romanesque heritage: 47 heliogravures spread across 48 inset plates, numerous black-and-white photographic reproductions, a double-page map of Romanesque Burgundy, 9 route maps, and an index of place names. Raymond Oursel offers here a comprehensive journey through the major centers of Romanesque art in Burgundy, ranging from monumental complexes to lesser-known rural buildings, with particular attention paid to architecture and sculpture: portals, tympanums, capitals, and monumental decorations. The book received the Prix Bourgogne, an award noted on the title page of this second edition. A fine copy. The white cover is slightly soiled and pitted, with a few minor signs of wear; the interior is well-preserved and the photographs are in excellent condition.
