MIGEON (Gaston). — Muslim Arts. Paris and Brussels, Librairi - Lot 231
MIGEON (Gaston). — Muslim Arts. Paris and Brussels, Librairie Nationale d'Art et d'Histoire, G. Van Oest, 1926. Large square 8vo, paperback, original printed cover, 48 pp., 64 plates. First edition. A comprehensive overview by Gaston Migeon, former curator of works of art and Oriental collections at the Louvre Museum, devoted to the arts of Islam. The author examines, in turn, architecture and the decorative and industrial arts, providing a broad overview of the artistic productions of the Muslim world and their dissemination from the Near East to India and the Mediterranean basin. The book is illustrated with 64 plates, featuring reproductions of monuments, sculptures, ceramics, works of art, and miniatures, including the Al-Azhar Mosque in Cairo and a Mughal miniature depicting Jahangir holding a portrait of his father Akbar. The cover is slightly worn, stained, and shows some signs of use, notably a discolorated area on the front cover; there are a few scattered foxing spots, and an old call number handwritten in pencil on the title page. The interior and plates are well preserved.
