LECLANT (Jean) — RACCAH (Albert). In the Footsteps of the Ph - Lot 203
LECLANT (Jean) — RACCAH (Albert). In the Footsteps of the Pharaohs. Paris, Librairie Hachette, 1958. Large quarto (in-4) measuring approximately 30 cm, 127 pp., publisher’s hardcover with an illustrated photographic dust jacket. Text by Jean Leclant, then a professor at the University of Strasbourg; photographs by Albert Raccah. Very abundant black-and-white and color photographic illustrations, including numerous full-page and double-page spreads. FIRST EDITION, published in 1958—a Hachette reprint was published in 1967. Jean Leclant’s bibliography confirms the 1958 Paris edition by Hachette, produced in collaboration with Albert Raccah; a library catalog entry lists 127 pages, with color and black-and-white illustrations, in a 30 cm format. A beautiful photo album dedicated to Pharaonic Egypt, featuring the major sites and monuments of Giza, Saqqara, Karnak, Luxor, Abydos, and the Nile Valley. Raccah’s photographs, often spectacular for their architectural framing, document pyramids, temples, colonnades, statues, and large sets of hieroglyphic reliefs. Copy preserved in its original dust jacket. Interior is clean and well-preserved, as shown in the photographs. Dust jacket shows signs of wear, scuffing, creases, and small marginal tears, particularly at the top and bottom edges and the corners; nevertheless, it is complete and still very presentable.
