Dedicated to François-Adrien Boïeldieu (1775–1834), one of the most popular composers of the Imperial and Restoration periods, this book traces the career of the creator of *La Dame blanche*, a masterpiece of French opéra-comique. Lucien Augé de Lassus discusses the musician’s youth in Rouen, his successes in Paris, his role in the development of opéra-comique, and the lasting influence of his work on the Romantic generation. The book is illustrated with twelve out-of-text reproductions, including portraits, documents, and views related to the composer’s life and career. Published in the renowned collection *Les Musiciens célèbres*, it constitutes an interesting example of early 20th-century French musicological literature. This copy is preserved in its original publisher’s cloth binding and is complete with all its illustrations. The binding is in fine condition. The interior is in very good condition.
