HUREAU (Germain) - Lot 85
HUREAU (Germain) Germain Hureau Jacques Cornut Louis XIV Born in the 17th century. Physician and advisor to Louis XIV, Doctor Regent of the Paris Faculty of Medicine, admitted in 1651. Nephew of physician and botanist Jacques Cornut. P.S. "Hureau". Paris, September 20, 1664. Parchment in-8 oblong manuscript. Rare autograph receipt signed by Germain Hureau, relating to a sum received for his "quartier de juin 1664". The document states: "La somme de soixante seize livres et douze sols...", and bears an important signature at the bottom. A fine administrative and financial record of Parisian medicine during the reign of Louis XIV, testifying to the material operation of the Faculty of Medicine and the salaries of physicians attached to the King. The document, written on parchment, features elegant 17th-century calligraphy and retains a strong historical character. Autographs by physicians associated with the court of Louis XIV are still rare on the market. An interesting testimony to the history of French medicine under the Ancien Régime.
