JACQUES MARTIN - Alix - The Spectre of Carthage - Lot 287
JACQUES MARTIN - Alix - The Spectre of Carthage JACQUES MARTIN Alix - Le Spectre de Carthage. Casterman, 1977. In-4 hardback, boards illustrated in color. Thirteenth album in the famous Alix historical comic strip, created by Jacques Martin. The plot plunges the reader into the heart of the remains of Carthage, where sinister phenomena and spectral apparitions threaten to rekindle the embers of a Punic war long since extinguished. Alix and Enak find themselves tasked with foiling a pharaonic plot orchestrated in the shadows to destabilize the Roman Empire. This album bears witness to Jacques Martin's absolute mastery of historical reconstruction and ancient architecture. The rigorous graphic design, typical of the Brussels school, is combined with a remarkable sense of drama, enhanced by tormented sky tones and particularly meticulous twilight atmospheres. Justification page : © Casterman 1977. - Translation and reproduction rights reserved for all countries. Printer's code letter: G (indicating first printing / first edition). ISBN : 2-203-31213-0. Original, sturdy boards. The first cover remains fresh and bright, with bright contrasts on the greenish clouds in the background. Corners and headpieces slightly dulled, with minor rubbing at the edge of the red spine. Interior perfectly clean, sound and complete, with no erasures or tears. A very fine copy of this 1977 first edition. One of the great dramatic summits of the series.
