JACQUES MARTIN - Alix - The Savage God - Lot 286
JACQUES MARTIN - Alix - The Savage God JACQUES MARTIN Alix - The Savage God. Casterman, 1970. In-4 hardback, covers illustrated in color. Ninth album in the historical Alix saga created by Jacques Martin. The story opens with a spellbinding mystery: a mysterious statuette with emerald eyes is spreading madness and terror in Roman Gaul. Alix and Enak find themselves plunged into the heart of a sinister plot involving religious fanaticism, political plots and ancient barbarian forces ready to undermine the authority of Rome. Here, Jacques Martin pushes his art of historical reconstitution to a startling degree of realism, supported by his famous "Ligne Claire" style inherited from the Brussels school. The album's sultry, memorable atmosphere plays wonderfully with the shadows of the great temples and the fires of clandestine cults. Justification page : © Casterman 1970 - Translation and reproduction rights reserved for all countries. Printer's code letter: G (indicating first print run / 1970 first edition). ISBN : 2-203-31207-6. Second plate: the catalog of "Déjà parus" titles stops at Le Spectre de Carthage for the Alix series (published just after Le Dieu sauvage, but printed here in advance of the catalog) and at L'Ouragan de feu for the Lefranc series. Copy in good condition. Solid period binding. The first cover has very dense, contrasting colors, featuring Alix with sword in hand facing an idol. Corners and headpieces show slight signs of wear, very typical for an album from this period. The interior is complete, clean and perfectly sound. A fine copy of this authentic 1970 first edition.
