MARJOLIN (Jean-Nicolas). - Lot 170
MARJOLIN (Jean-Nicolas). Born in Ray-sur-Saône, 1780 - died in Paris, 1850. French surgeon. Professor at the Paris Faculty of Medicine, member of the French Academy of Medicine. His name remains associated with Marjolin's ulcer. Autograph bill signed "Marjolin". Paris, March 16, 1821. Three quarters of a page in-4. An interesting professional document, detailing the fees Marjolin received for treatment of a high-ranking patient, the Vicomte de Vergennes. The practitioner meticulously details the number of visits made over a period covering December 1819 to May 1820, distinguishing several phases of the illness, for a total of one hundred and seventy-five consultations, corresponding to fees of nine hundred and seventy-five francs. A precise and rare testimony to medical practice and the pricing of care under the Restoration, illustrating both the activity of a leading surgeon and the economic uses of medicine in the early 19th century.
